A Writing Journey
From a young age, Jeremiah took an interest in literature. When his elementary school hosted a book fair, he found himself drawn in by a big black bird on the cover of a cheap softback copy of Poe's poems and stories. The first time he read "The Raven," he was hooked.
In junior high, Jeremiah secretly wrote poetry (terrible poetry), and throughout high school, he dabbled in short stories and songs. As a sophomore in college, he attempted his first novel and, in his youthful arrogance, was sure that by the age of 25, he'd be a famous author. Fame and fortune seemed to be great motivators, but life's distractions pulled him away from the work. That novel was never finished, and his desire for fame and fortune faded into the background.
For years, Jeremiah's relationship with writing grew to be an on-again, off-again, love/hate scenario. When he was writing, he loved it. But when it came time for editing, he found himself much less interested. Jeremiah wrote early drafts of several novels over the next few years, but never pushed himself to edit and finish one.
When he and his wife moved to Brazil, he dove much deeper into the written word. He read everything he could get his hands on and tried, once again, to draft a novel. This time, getting the draft to the proper length wasn't an issue; the words poured out of him and, for the first time, he realized how much he truly loved writing. It wasn't just something to pass the time or a hobby with a waxing and waning interest; it was a passion.
When Jeremiah and his wife returned to the US, he reenrolled in school, pursuing a master's degree in English and Creative Writing. While working full-time and attending school full-time, Jeremiah drafted and edited his manuscript, An Unforgivable Talent, for his master's thesis. Six more novels followed before he felt he got his "groove." Most of those novels will sit on a hard drive, cloud storage, or, in one case, in a series of composition notebooks. Amongst all of these unfinished pages, there was something about one of those novels that he couldn't let rest, though.
The Silver Screen begged to be revisited. It stuck in the back of his mind, nagging him to take another look, to edit, revise, edit revise... After years of intermittent work, several rounds of edits, and the constructive criticism of a dedicated writing group and family members, The Silver Screen will be Jeremiah's first published novel. But not his last.
Jeremiah writes every day and is currently working on a YA trilogy that he hopes will be his next published work.
